Dr. R. Stanton Norman

President of Williams Baptist University

Dr. Stan Norman is the seventh president of Williams Baptist University, where he took the helm in April of 2018.

Dr. Norman has more than two decades of experience in Christian higher education, most recently at Oklahoma Baptist University, where he served for nine years as provost and executive vice president.

Previously, Dr. Norman was vice president for university advancement at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., from 2007 to 2009.

He served at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary from 1998 to 2007, where he was associate professor of theology and director of the Baptist Center for Theology and Ministry.

He was also assistant professor of religion at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C., from 1997 to 1998, and he served as assistant professor of theology and church history at The Criswell College in Dallas, Tex., from 1996 to 1997.

In addition, he has served as senior pastor and interim pastor of numerous churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Missouri.

Dr. Norman has contributed numerous book chapters, articles, presentations, and essays, as well as authored or edited several books, including The Mission of Today’s Church, The Baptist Way, and Perspectives on Church Government.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at The Criswell College in Dallas, and he holds both a Master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in systematic theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth.  He also did advanced study at Oxford University, Texas Christian University, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Norman and his wife, the former Joy Akin, are Oklahoma natives, and they have three grown sons.
