Hunger Awareness Dinner is Tonight

Williams Baptist University will host its annual Hunger Awareness Dinner on Monday, Feb. 19, in support of Heifer International.

The dinner’s purpose is to increase awareness about global hunger, poverty and food supply. The student-organized event is led by WBU’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, which is a society of business students.

At the dinner, participants are given either first, second, or third class meals, according to their entry ticket.  The setup is used to demonstrate the differences in food available in first, second, and third-world countries around the world.

Heifer International is a Little Rock based, non-profit organization whose stated mission is “to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.”

Hayes Howell, director of campus ministries at Williams, will be the event’s speaker.

The Hunger Awareness Dinner will take place in WBU’s Mabee Student Center starting at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend and tickets are $1, with other donations welcome.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Canned goods will also be accepted this year, and donating 5 cans can move a participant from a third class ticket to a second class ticket.

All monetary proceeds will be donated to Heifer International, and all canned goods will be given to the food bank at First Baptist Church of Walnut Ridge.

Williams is a Christian university located in Walnut Ridge.  It will officially become Williams Baptist University in July.
