Blevins to Speak on Reconstruction History at WBU

Dr. Brooks Blevins

Williams Baptist University’s History Department, the Division of Arts and Sciences, and the Coe Scholars Program are jointly hosting a public lecture on Monday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. in WBU’s Eagle Grill.

Dr. Brooks Blevins, the Noel Boyd Professor of Ozarks Studies at Missouri State University and the prize-winning author or editor of nine books, will present “The War that Refused to End: Reconstruction in Northern Arkansas.”

Blevins will recount the region’s pivotal but tumultuous post-Civil War period, which featured intense hyper-partisanship and violence between the Union League and the Ku Klux Klan.  The clashes resulted in the tragic assassinations of a voting registrar and a federal Freedmen’s Bureau agent, as well as the killing of some ex-Confederate militiamen.

The Eagle Grill is located in the Mabee Student Center at WBU.
