A Prayer for a New Year

I recently finished reading a history of WBU, Rainbows Come When It Rains, written by our founder Dr. H. E. Williams. I found this work to be encouraging and instructive. The book concludes with a desire and a prayer from Dr. Williams for all future leaders of the university.

I thought his insightful prayer to be an appropriate way to begin the 2019 New Year as well as a new chapter for the school – “Renewing Minds, Transforming Lives.” Please join with me in praying this for all WBU trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the university:

“I ask . . . that all future leaders of the institution . . . keep the nobility of the motto of the college, ‘The Campus of Christian Purpose,’ as the guiding principle for the operation of the college. I hope and pray that they will keep the institution very close the Cross of Jesus Christ, by sacrificing themselves upon His Cross daily. Leadership of the institution is not be construed as a throne nor a crown, but a cross to be borne with devotion and dignity, until our Lord shall return. Thrones and crowns will come later.”

Amen! May this be true for all of us at WBU as we pray and labor to fulfill our vision “to produce exceptional graduates prepared to engage local and global cultures through a Christ-centered worldview.” May it be so, Lord, may it be so!
