Winners Announced in WBU Golf Tourney

A total of 23 teams took part Friday, May 17, in the annual Williams Baptist University Golf Tournament.  The tourney, which benefits the WBU athletic department, was held at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro.

The tournament netted $15,000 for WBU sports teams.  Director of Athletics Jeff Rider said the tourney proceeds will go toward a variety of projects that will benefit the Eagles athletic program. Past tournaments have helped fund facility improvements, training equipment updates and new uniforms.

First place in A flight went to the team of Eddie Hillis, Dustin Hillis, Adam Amick and Anthony Renshaw.  The team shot a 54, which was 18 under par.  The team is pictured above with WBU President Dr. Stan Norman (center).

Second place in A flight went to Zane Wright, Mitch Wright, Will Little and Brett Daughdrill.

In B flight, first place went to Terry Kelley, Jon Scott Kelley, Cameron Kelley and Frank Kelley.

Taking second in B flight was the team of Bill Wilcoxson, Eric Wilcoxson, Corbin Truelove and Dalton Lovell.

Closest to the pin on Hole 5 went to Corbin Trulove.  Closest to the pin on Hole 13 was won by Dave Fowler.  Long drive on Hole 1 went to Adam Amick, and long drive on Hole 10 was won by Ryan Manning.

Championship Level tournament sponsors were First National Bank of Lawrence County, Hotel Rhea of Walnut Ridge and Tekla Research of Jonesboro.

Ace Level sponsors were Arkansas Baptist Foundation, Doty Family Funeral Home, NEA Baptist Medical Center and The Ticket 95.3.

Eagle Level sponsors were The Wolf 106.5, The Solutions Group, Cavenaugh Auto Group, Greenway Equipment, Sleep Number, Smith/Mayfield Accountants, Bartons, BXS Insurance and Master Group.

Birdie Level sponsors were Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Brown’s Graduation, Nicholson Farms, Clark General Contractors, Birdsong Peanuts, Ritter Communications, Laubauch Storage/Freight, The Storehouse, Walmart in Walnut Ridge, Riverbank, Buffalo Wild Wings, Lawrence County Seed, Brackett-Krennerich Architects and Andrews Family Dentistry.

Williams is a private, Christian university in Walnut Ridge.  The WBU Eagles field 20 varsity and three junior varsity teams, which compete in the American Midwest Conference of the NAIA.
