Homecoming is Saturday, Nov. 2

by Bekah Kopp

Williams Baptist University alumni, friends and family will gather on Saturday, November 2, to celebrate the school’s 78th annual homecoming celebration. A host of activities, from basketball to a theatre production, are lined up for this year’s homecoming.

Dr. Doug Walker, vice president for advancement and operations, said this semester has been an incredible one for WBU, and he is hopeful that visitors for the homecoming activities will be able to experience that familial and uplifting atmosphere.

“We are just so pleased and honored with how things are going this semester and how the spirit of what’s happening on campus can be caught by alumni and friends as they come for all the events,” Walker said.

Kicking off the day will be a scholastic book sale at WBU’s Felix Goodson Library, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At 11, an alumni baseball game gets underway at Shell Field, and the Golden Eagles Brunch takes place in the Moody Room for alumni from 50 or more years ago.

Also beginning at 11 will be an alumni art show in the Maddox Center gallery.  The show will be open until 4.

The WBU Worship Team performs at 11:30 in the Mabee Student Center lounge.  The Spirit Store, located next to the lounge, will also be open Saturday for those who want to stock up on Williams shirts and paraphernalia.

An alumni softball game will begin at 12, and then at 1, performances by the Williams Singers, The Cast drama team and the WBU Band will take place in the Manley Chapel.

Basketball begins at 2:30 in the Southerland-Mabee Center, with the Williams Eagles taking on Ecclesia.  Homecoming coronation will take place at halftime, which should be around 3 p.m.

The WBU theatre program will stage the drama “Glorious” Friday and Saturday.  The play begins at 7:00 p.m. both evenings in WBU’s Startup Chapel.

Walker invited all who can to visit WBU for Homecoming festivities Nov. 2 and share in the university’s excitement, noting, “There is a lot of energy on campus. We really sense the moving and the spirit of God among us.”
