Department of Music to Present I Hear America Singing

The Department of Music at Williams Baptist University will present a concert of patriotic music on Tuesday, April 7, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The performance, entitled I Hear America Singing, will begin at 7:00 pm in WBU’s Manley Chapel. Admission is free.

Inspired by Walt Whitman’s poem of the same name, I Hear America Singing highlights the many musical voices that shape the American story—from folk songs and hymns to jazz, band music and choral works set to texts by American writers. Performances will feature the Williams Singers, University Concert Band, University Jazz Band, and male and female choruses.

The concert will also feature combined choirs with students from Pocahontas and Walnut Ridge High Schools.

The evening will culminate in a community sing-along of God Bless America, inviting the audience to join in celebrating the nation’s semiquincentennial.
