A performance by Kiri McMann will open the Lecture & Concert Series for the spring semester at Williams Baptist University. McMann’s piano and oboe recital on Monday, March 3, is to be the first of three events slated for WBU in coming weeks.

McMann’s performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 3 in the Magee Choir Room of WBU’s Maddox Center. The oboist and pianist from Pocahontas, Ark., is a senior at Arkansas State University majoring in Oboe and Piano Performance and English.

McMann has performed with the A-State Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble and Delta Symphony Orchestra, in addition to private recitals for the Walnut Ridge Schubert Club. She is currently the pianist and choir director at the First Presbyterian Church of Walnut Ridge.

Selections to be performed include Prelude and Fugue in D Minor by J. S. Bach, Reverie by Claude Debussy, Sonata for Oboe and Piano by Francis Poulenc, and Introduction, Theme and Variations for Oboe and Orchestra by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.

McMann will be joined by Dr. Lauren Schack Clark as her collaborative pianist for the oboe pieces.

The following Monday, March 10, Dr. Robert Sluka will present  a lecture entitled “Hope for the Ocean: Faith and Conservation in Practice.”  Sluka writes on the interface between Christian faith and marine conservation. His research focuses on marine biodiversity conservation, plastic pollution, and fisheries, particularly marine protected areas. His presentation begins at 7:00 pm in Startup Chapel.

Then on Tuesday, April 8, Marty Bishop will present a trumpet concert. Bishop plays in the US Army Band, and he also is a former student of WBU Director of Bands Rod Plunkett. That concert is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Manley Chapel.

There is no charge for any of the events, and the public is encouraged to attend.
