WBU Women’s Basketball Named AMC/CCA Champions of Character Award Winner

The Williams Baptist University women’s basketball team has been named the American Midwest Conference/Conference Commissioner Association Champions of Character® Team award winner the league office announced Tuesday.

The team was honored for its exemplary character and sportsmanship on the field, on campus, and in the community. During the 2022-2023 academic year, the team hosted three volunteer events. 

The first event was a free local basketball camp for kids in the community. The team worked with over 80 kids ranging from first grade to fifth grade on the fundamentals of the game.

In March, the team volunteered to work a Special Olympics Event. that had over 360 athletes take part in passing, dribbling, and shooting drills.

The team also volunteered to work concessions, gate, and clean the court between games during the WBU High School Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The AMC Champions of Character® Team award is part of the NAIA Champions of Character® program, which is designed to promote the five core values of the NAIA: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

The team is now eligible for the NAIA CCA Champions of Character Team award, which will be announced publicly during the NAIA National Awards Day in September. The winner will be presented with a certificate and recognized at an annual function in conjunction with the NAIA National Convention.

WBU is a private, Christian university in Walnut Ridge.
