WBU’s Colvey Named AMC Athletic Trainer of the Year

Williams Baptist University athletic trainer Misty Colvey has been named the American Midwest Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year the conference office announced Friday morning.

The AMC Athletic Trainer of the Year award is bestowed upon a NATA-certified athletic trainer who exemplifies the highest standards of personal conduct and professional allied health service to athletes within the AMC. Colvey’s exceptional qualities and achievements have made her a role model for her peers and an invaluable asset to the athletic community.

To be considered for this honor, candidates must fulfill a set of rigorous criteria. They must be a member in good standing in both the NAIA Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association, as well as actively employed as an athletic trainer at an NAIA institution. Furthermore, the recipient must not have received this award in the past three years.

Colvey joined Williams Baptist University in 2006, following her experience as a student athletic trainer at Arkansas State University. Over the years, she has demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication in overseeing the healthcare needs of the university’s 17 sports programs, covering a total of 18 different sports.

In her role at WBU, Colvey is responsible for supervising student-athlete rehabilitation programs, conducting injury evaluations, assisting with pre-participation physical examinations, and maintaining comprehensive treatment, injury, and rehabilitation logs. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct physical education instructor, a position she has held since 2008.

Colvey’s commitment to professional growth and involvement is evident through her active membership in esteemed organizations such as the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (District 6), Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association,

and the NAIA Athletic Trainers’ Association. Her dedication to ongoing education and collaboration further exemplifies her commitment to excellence in the field of athletic training.

“Misty Colvey does an unbelievable job for us at WBU,” said Jeff Rider, WBU Athletic Director. “She is admired, respected, and appreciated by our staff and our student-athletes. She makes a difference daily within our department.”

As the recipient of the AMC Athletic Trainer of the Year award, Colvey is now eligible for the prestigious NAIA Athletic Trainer of the Year recognition. The winner of this title will be publicly announced during the NAIA National Awards Day in September. They will receive a certificate and be honored at an annual function held in conjunction with the NAIA National Convention.

WBU is a private, Christian university in Walnut Ridge.
